Unmarried, Christina Rossetti always lived at home. She had a sister, Maria Francesca, whose book on Dante is still in print. Her two eminent brothers, William Michael, and the flamboyant Dante Gabriel, founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. But despite a rich, loving family life, disappointment in romance created in her a sense of deprivation that typifies some of her greatest work.

About the author:

Marnie Pomeroy grew up in the countryside near Millbrook, New York. After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College, she spent three years in Europe, the last as a part-time member of the Robert Graves household in Mallorca. Following four years in Manhattan, with a stint at The New Yorker as a receptionist, she lived in rural New England, then north of Ottawa, Canada, where she co-founded and helped run the Ladysmith Press while raising two daughters. Ten years later she settled in Ottawa, at first painting and giving shows, while always writing.
